Larry E. Jordan

Larry Ernest Jordan, the son of Henry and Mona (Sveum) Jordan was born on January 9, 1947 in Rugby, North Dakota.  He died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, March 5, 2018 in his rural Rugby, North Dakota home.

Larry was reared in the Spring Lake Township, Pierce County home of his parents and started school there.  He completed his education at Rugby High School graduating in the class of 1965.  While attending school, Larry was very active in 4H and FFA.  After high school, he began and attended classes at NDSU until his father died suddenly.  Upon his death, Larry moved back to the farm to help his mother.  On June 8, 1968, he was united in marriage to a young woman he met at college, Sharon Bassen.  After their ceremony in Grand Rapids, North Dakota, the couple made their home on the Jordan family farm.  A farmer from the start, Larry’s pride were his Angus cattle.  It was to do, but in 2015 and 2016 he sold his treasured cattle due to health concerns.  But, he did bring home 5 head this year and followed the bull sales on the internet and reading sale books from cover to cover.  He took great pride helping young farmers get established and guiding them along the way.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rugby, a former board director of FSA and enjoyed his side-by-side traveling around the country side visiting friends and neighbors and checking things out.  He also enjoyed playing cards and loved the farm life.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon; three grandchildren, Wesley, Vincent and Hazel, all of Beulah; brothers, Terry of Tomahawk, Wisconsin, Daryl (Robyn) and Jay, all of Rugby; his mother-in-law, Shirley Bassen of LaMoure; nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by a son in infancy and his son, Kenneth (January 1, 2018); father-in-law, Kenneth Bassen; and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10th at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rugby with spring burial in the Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby.  Pastor Joshua Reimche, officiate.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday in the Anderson Funeral Home, Rugby and will continue Saturday for one hour prior to the time of the service at the church.

Dear Sharon and family,
As you know, Larry was a great and good person, and those of us who knew him growing up in Rugby thought so too.  When schools consolidated in Pierce Co. we town kids were delighted by our new friends like Larry. We are so sorry for the your loss.
Mark Strand, Fargo

I was sorry to have read about Larry's death. I guess its been a long time since we used to see one another. I guess his grandma Nanalou and my grandpa  were  siblings and our mothers first cousins.  Anyway maybe we will see each other up in Heaven some day. God Bless

I wish to send my condolences to the entire family.  I remember how Larry, Daryl, and Jay worked hard together in the 70s. Prayers are with you at this sad time.
