Clovis Ilene Lee

In the arms of her children, Clovis Lee, age 76 Towner, ND peacefully entered the gates of heaven on Thursday, Nov. 30th 2017 at HAMC Medical Center in Rugby ND following a courageous battle with cancer.

Clovis was born June 18, 1941 to Oliver and Gladys (Korsmoe) Sveund in Rugby, ND.  She was the oldest of 7 children and was raised on their rural Towner farm.  She began her education at a Country School near the farm and graduated from Towner High School in 1959.  Clovis married Edward J. Haman on Nov. 9th 1959.  To that union 3 children were born.  During their marriage, they milked cows, owned and operated the Corral Bar in Towner and later the Dreamland Motel.

Clovis was well known in the business community working at the Towner Café and at the Longhorn bar while at the same time operating the Motel.

On Nov. 19th, 1979 she was united in marriage to James R. Lee in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Shortly after their marriage they made their home at the Lee Ranch north of Towner where she got to live the lifestyle she dearly loved.  Together they ranched, farmed, and milked cows.  Clovis had an incredible gift for nurturing animals and often saved calves & horses that others had no hope for and embraced all animals that needed extra care.

Clovis loved spending time with family & friends and her morning rancher coffee guests.  She always had the coffee on and something freshly baked and a kind word to share.

Every holiday you would find Clovis’s home decorated as she eagerly awaited visits from her children & grandchildren.  She made every holiday a special occasion for them and others especially at Christmas time.

Clovis took great pride in her yard and flowers and always had fresh garden produce and made lots of salsa & chokecherry jelly and syrup every year.  Clovis was an avid bowler and enjoyed her weekly bowling outings with her team for many years.  She was a huge Nascar Fan and cheered on Dale Earnhardt Jr. for every race.  She also loved to watch rodeo especially when her granddaughters or great grand-son was competing.  She had a great love of horses and rode in many Towner 4th of July parades.

Clovis loved good old country music and the opportunity to dance whenever she could. She was a legend in the kitchen as a wonderful cook and baker and was known for her amazing homemade donuts, kuchen, lefse & homemade bread that she loved to share.

Clovis was a woman of integrity, strength, knowledge, patience, responsibility, and honesty to name a few.  She was known for her gentle nature and kindness towards others and was a friend to all who knew her.

Clovis was proceeded in death by her husband Jim and her parents along with many of her dear pets.  She will be forever missed by:  Her daughters:  Lori Sebastian of Towner, Melanie (Scott) Best, Norwich and Son:  Darin (Mindy) Haman, Towner.  Sisters:  Judy Pond, Towner; Sharon Drader, Bantry; Delilah (Carter) McBeth; Towner Brothers:  Harvey (Marilyn) Sveund; Towner, Allan (Cindy)Sveund; Bismarck; Donald (Kati) Sveund, Towner.  Her grandchildren:  Lexi Sebastian, Codi Sebastian, Cheznie Best and great-grandson Kanin Sebastian.  Numerous nieces & nephews and many caring friends and family.

A deep & heartfelt Thank you to Dr. Schoenberg and the caring staff at Heart of America Medical Center for their compassionate and professional care of Mom and us during her time there.
